Rule34.xxx Videos: Length Tags, Search Operators and Filters
Rule34.xxx is a booru imageboard whose counter showed 16,109,255 posts on October 26, 2026, and 537,617 of them carry the video tag. The site has no separate video section. Browsing works through tags such as video, sound and longer_than_5_minutes, and the length tags go up to longer_than_1_hour. Rule34.xxx says 90% of the site works without an account, and its sign-up asks only for a login and a password.
Rule34.xxx, R34xxx and the Official Domain
Rule34.xxx runs on one domain, rule34.xxx, with its API on the api.rule34.xxx subdomain. R34xxx, rule34xxx and rule 34 xx are spellings of the same name, and the page title quotes the rule 34 maxim as "Rule 34 - If it exists there is porn of it."
- The footer names the software: "Running Gelbooru Beta 0.2."
- No company, address or country appears in the terms or on the homepage, and forum posts come from staff accounts such as slayerduck and Kielan.
- According to Fanlore, the archive used to live at rule34.booru.org, and the earliest archived copy of that address dates from May 14, 2011.
- Rule34.xxx sends real-person content to realbooru.com, which its links page lists among the site's friends.
- I found no current privacy policy on Rule34.xxx, and its old privacy page reads "This page is deprecated and no longer in use."
How Rule34.xxx Marks Video Posts
Rule34.xxx tags a post as video when the file is an MP4 or a WebM, while GIFs count as animation, so a search for video alone leaves them out.
| Tag | What it means on Rule34.xxx | Posts |
|---|---|---|
| video | "A post that is a video. This includes the MP4 and WebM formats." | 537,617 |
| animated | any animated sequence, from GIFs and animated PNGs to Flash, ugoira and video files | 754,141 |
| sound | "A video post with audible sound." Written sound effects go under sound_effects instead | 289,493 |
| no_sound | silent clips, about half as many as clips with audible sound | 148,804 |
| voice_acted | clips with recorded voice acting, about a fifth as many posts as the sound tag | 60,008 |
| mp4 | the busier format tag, used about eight times as often as webm | 116,628 |
| webm | the format the upload rules prefer, at around 100MB per file | 14,534 |
| gif | animated GIFs, which the video tag's wiki page leaves out by name | 100,296 |
Tag list and wiki pages read on October 26, 2026. The mp4 and webm tags cover about a quarter of all video posts, so add them after the video tag when the format matters.
Rule34.xxx takes video uploads through a separate upload page. The rules spelled out on February 7, 2026 ask for clips of "a reasonable length, not to short, not to long," and add: "we prefer webm, try to keep to around 100MB." Uploaders may not add or remove frames, add captions or mix different artists' work into one clip. New users' uploads wait for a moderator, under a rule from November 6, 2020. Running time is recorded through tags that start with longer_than or shorter_than, not through a duration field, since the cheatsheet lists no length metatag.
Length Tags on Rule34.xxx From 5 Seconds to an Hour
Rule34.xxx length tags start at longer_than_5_seconds and end at longer_than_1_hour. The thresholds are applied unevenly, so a clip may carry one length tag and miss the lower ones, as the 618 posts on the 6-minute tag against 1,705 on the 10-minute tag show.
| Range | Tags and post counts on October 26, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Seconds | longer_than_10_seconds on 29,565 posts and longer_than_30_seconds on 63,477, while the 5, 20, 40 and 50 second tags hold 170, 387, 275 and 234 |
| One to five minutes | longer_than_one_minute on 45,579 and longer_than_2_minutes on 15,533, then 11,082, 6,524 and 6,242 posts for 3, 4 and 5 minutes |
| Six to nine minutes | 618, 300, 185 and 124 posts, which together come to fewer than the 10-minute tag alone |
| Ten to thirty minutes | 1,705 posts for 10 minutes, 716 for 15, 330 for 20, 12 for 25 and 126 for 30 |
| Forty minutes and up | 16 posts for 40 minutes, 2 for 50 minutes and 14 for longer_than_1_hour |
Source: Rule34.xxx tag list sorted by post count, October 26, 2026. Counts change daily.
Spelling decides whether a length tag finds anything. The one-minute tag that works is longer_than_one_minute, with 45,579 posts, while its twin longer_than_1_minute has just 2 posts. Two minutes flips the pattern, with 15,533 posts on longer_than_2_minutes and 10 on longer_than_two_minutes, and the short-clip tags lean toward words again, with 2,249 posts on shorter_than_five_minutes and 12 on shorter_than_5_minutes. The shorter_than_30_seconds tag alone covers 83,984 posts, so short clips get tagged more often than long ones.
To catch every clip tagged over five minutes, put all 13 thresholds in one OR group, as the Rule34.xxx search cheatsheet allows: video ( longer_than_5_minutes ~ longer_than_6_minutes ~ longer_than_7_minutes ~ longer_than_8_minutes ~ longer_than_9_minutes ~ longer_than_10_minutes ~ longer_than_15_minutes ~ longer_than_20_minutes ~ longer_than_25_minutes ~ longer_than_30_minutes ~ longer_than_40_minutes ~ longer_than_50_minutes ~ longer_than_1_hour ). The cheatsheet gives no limit on tags per search, and I did not run the query, so drop the rarest thresholds, such as the 2-post longer_than_50_minutes, if the site rejects it. Rule34video, the other big source of rule 34 video, sets length with a Duration filter instead, and its page text does not list the cut-offs.
Search Operators for Rule34.xxx Video
A space between tags works as AND on Rule34.xxx, so video sound returns posts with both tags.
Exclude a tag
A minus sign removes posts with that tag, and the cheatsheet's example, -tag1, reads "Search for posts that don't have tag1."
Combine alternatives
Write ( tag1 ~ tag2 ) for one tag or the other. The Rule34.xxx cheatsheet says the braces "are important" for grouping the tags an OR applies to, and OR searching came back to the site on May 9, 2020, after a period without it.
Match part of a tag
An asterisk works as a wildcard, as in ta*1, and a tilde after a single tag, night~, runs a fuzzy search for close spellings.
Sort the results
sort:score:desc, sort:updated:desc and sort:random reorder a search. The other sortable fields are id, user, height, width, parent and source, each ascending or descending.
Set a quality floor
score:>=10 keeps posts with ten points or more, a value refreshed daily at 12AM CST, and width:>=1000 height:>1000 keeps higher-resolution posts.
Ratings on Rule34.xxx are safe, questionable and explicit, according to the help page, which defines explicit as any image where genitals "are exposed and easily visible." The FAQ contradicts that with "Rate is Explicit, there are no questionable posts." Neither the cheatsheet nor the options page gives a limit on tags per search.
Rule34.xxx Blacklist, Score Threshold and Server Settings
Rule34.xxx keeps four viewing settings under My Account, Options, and the page opens for visitors who are not logged in.
Up to 100 hidden tags
On the Rule34.xxx options page, "Any post containing a blacklisted tag will be ignored." The list holds 100 tags at most and needs cookies and JavaScript. Mistagged posts still get through, and adding ai_generated is the site's own advice for hiding AI work.
A minimum score
Post Threshold on the Rule34.xxx options page hides low-rated work, since "Any post with a score below this will be ignored."
Preferred CDN Location
Rule34.xxx's Preferred CDN Location menu offers Central USA, East USA, West USA, EU, API-CDN and Default, with the note "If you have problems with loading videos you can try other servers here."
Disabling ads
Rule34.xxx's options page says Supporters and frequent contributors can switch ads off, and it shows targets such as 500 more uploads, 1,500 more tag edits or 1,000 more forum posts. Supporter status links to a Patreon thread from 2018.
The options page does not say whether a blacklist saved without an account survives a new browser session.
Rule 34 Hentai Rules on Rule34.xxx
Rule34.xxx calls itself a hentai site in its terms: "Real porn: We're a hentai site, go to realbooru if you want that." The same item extends to "photo realistic AI and Deepfakes."
Anime r34 on Rule34.xxx answers to the same rules as any other post. For hand-drawn clips, search video 2d_animation, a tag on 45,120 posts on October 26, 2026, and use 3d_animation (76,476 posts) for rendered work. The Prohibited Content list in the Rule34.xxx terms bans sexual depictions of children in two separate items, and the site's AI rules refuse AI human subjects that look even remotely young. Watermarked work is on the same list, and the site's content standards ban paywalled or unreleased work with the line "Paid content will be removed." A February 8, 2026 announcement added a skill threshold: "R34 is for art by Intermediate artists and above." The other recommended r34 websites publish a ban on sexual content involving minors as well.
Drawn sexual images of minors can still be illegal. In the US, 18 U.S.C. 1466A can cover obscene drawings and cartoons, and the Crown Prosecution Service applies section 62 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 to cartoons, manga images and CGI. On Rule34.xxx, flag such a post with the Flag for deletion link and pick a reason. Suspected child sexual abuse material can also be reported to the NCMEC CyberTipline in the US or the Internet Watch Foundation in the UK.
Rule34.xxx Age Verification and Regional Limits
Rule34.xxx announced age verification on May 8, 2026, in a post that reads "Those living in areas requiring age verification can now do so to access R34." It named neither the regions nor the method. On age, the Rule34.xxx terms say only "If you are a minor, then you will not use the Site."

- Brazil and Colombia. Rule34.xxx announced on December 30, 2025 that sign-ups and tag edits are blocked. "Brazilians can continue to use the site, just not upload or edit tags."
- VPNs. On March 17, 2026, the staff offered "trusted status" to VPN users with accounts at least five months old and normal activity. A day later they began blocking video for abusive networks and called the block temporary.
- France. The site's takedown log records notices from the French police unit OCLCTIC on July 17 and October 4, 2023, with a 24-hour deadline to remove the content.
- United Kingdom. Ofcom has required highly effective age assurance from porn services in scope of the Online Safety Act since July 25, 2025, and none of its published cases names Rule34.xxx. Cybernews wrote on October 7, 2026 that UK checks on the site run through AgeGo, which the forum post does not confirm.
Rule34.xxx has published government and legal takedowns on its forum since July 17, 2023, "for the sake of transparency."
Rule34.xxx API and Download Rules
Rule34.xxx documents its API at api.rule34.xxx, and the API accepts any tag combination that works on the website. Without a key, the API answered "Missing authentication" when checked on October 26, 2026.
Members find their API key and user ID under Options, in a line headed API Access Credentials, with the note "You need to add this to your queries." A post request returns at most 1,000 posts, and a tag request defaults to 100. The documentation gives no fixed rate limit, says limits "may be changed at any time" and lets heavy users ask for more through Discord or email.
The API terms forbid showing ads or paywalls around content pulled from the site and allow one key per person. The main terms ban "any automated process to retrieve or index" Rule34.xxx, apart from public search engines and the API used "without hammering."
Rule34.xxx Questions
Is Rule34.xxx free?
Yes, viewing costs nothing, and Rule34.xxx sells no premium plan. Ads run on its pages, and only Supporters, who sign up through a Patreon link, and heavy contributors can switch them off. A free account, which needs no email, adds favorites, uploads, an API key and site mail.
Can I upload videos to Rule34.xxx?
Yes, with an account, through a separate upload page for video. The rules prefer WebM files of around 100MB, and under a 2020 rule, new users' uploads wait for a moderator. AI uploads need the AI_Generated tag plus ten other good tags. Their daily cap is 100 per uploader.
Is Rule34.xxx down?
I can't see live status, but Rule34.xxx staff reported an attack on August 7, 2026, writing "R34 got attacked, please bare with us as we sort it out." The announcement does not say how long the site was affected. If videos stall while the rest of the site works, the options page suggests trying another Preferred CDN Location.
Why can't I add new tags on Rule34.xxx?
Rule34.xxx stopped letting users create new tags on May 26, 2026, because the feature was "being abused by tag vandals." A staff post on July 10, 2026 described tagging rights that would depend on how much trust an account has earned, though neither post says when the change will come.
Is r34xx the same site as Rule34.xxx?
R34xx did not appear on any Rule34.xxx page I read. On October 26, 2026 those pages gave the full rule34.xxx address, with the API on api.rule34.xxx, and none mentioned a domain spelled r34.xx. I did not check who holds r34.xx, so type rule34.xxx yourself.
How do I report a post on Rule34.xxx?
Use the Flag for deletion link on the post and choose a reason. Staff ask users not to report images by email and suggest emailing a screenshot only if a flag gets no answer within seven days. Copyright takedowns are accepted only from the original artist, by email, with links to the images.
